M3gan | Review & Score

About: A robotics engineer at a toy company builds a life-like doll that begins to take on a life of its own.

She's no Chucky, but she's just as crazy.

Blumhouse's M3GAN is a fun FUN horror fest. Not only did M3gan take on a life of her own, but the whole film took on a life of its own in the process. It's a self aware fright fest that knows exactly what it's trying to accomplish, yet feels too original for its own self to stay the course. Make sense? I hope so.

The film has a solid cast who are definitely game and the story itself is pretty straight forward - a young girl gets put in an unfortunate situation and her young, single aunt has to put the pieces back together the best way she knows how and can do. The performances of Allison Williams and Violet McGraw are terrific and they have solid chemistry to carry the film.

The film paces well and has some decent scares here and there, though I felt it was more of a suspense thriller than actual 'horror'. It is what it is and it's a great weekend fright fest for all audiences. It's really fun and is extremely self aware of its premise. Take it or leave it.
