Trap | Review & Score

About: A father and his teen daughter attend a pop concert only to realize they've entered the center of a dark and sinister event.

It's not Shyamalan's best work, but it's a fun time. Thanks to Josh Hartnett.

This film didn't feel as twisty as the normal Shyamalan film goes for, but it's rather more of a straight forward serial killer thriller. Josh Hartnett absolutely KILLED it in Trap as the serial killer 'The Butcher'. Hartnett plays one slick, savvy and 'Dexter'-like persona. He's half the reason you'll watch, but he's the reason you will stay seated throughout the movie.

I want to compliment the original music from M. Night's daughter, who portrays Pop singer Lady Raven, Saleka Shyamalan. She's very talented and has a tremendous voice. I dig that everything she sang in the film is all original music.

TRAP has a nice pace, tone, sense of tension, great performances and the finale is pretty solid. Even if it's not as twisty as I was hoping for, but Shyamalan made a solid thriller here. It won't be considered his best from many of his fans, including myself, but Trap is worth the price of admission just to witness Josh Hartnett go full psychotic 'father of the year'.

I don't want to give anything away, this isn't a spoiler review. But, if you are going into this movie thinking there a ton of twists and turns...you might wanna tone that thought process down a few notches. Don't get that kinda hype train for it, it's a straight forward but entertaining thriller. It definitely felt like a PG-13 thriller too. No blood, guts, supernatural beings and all of that.

But still, it's worth a watch, worth a price of admission and worth the Saturday night with your friends at the theater getting your M. Night Shyamalan fix.

If you're a Shyamalan fan, you will enjoy Trap. Trust me.

Oh, and yes, there is a credits scene. *wink*
