Day Shift | Review & Score

About: A hard working, blue collar dad just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted 10-year-old daughter. His mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income: hunting and killing vampires.

I honestly... I didn't expect much going into this movie. Most of the recent Netflix Original films have been pretty awful and not the best quality. A lot of woke material being thrown around, guarded for a certain audience. It gets really old, quick.

DAY SHIFT is one of the true rarities now a days.

What a cast. Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, Snoop Dogg. I mean c'mon. The appeal, man.

Day Shift tells the story of a blue-collar dad named Bud (Foxx) who is just trying to get by and raise his witty 8-year-old daughter, Paige (Zion Broadnax). Bud camouflages himself as a "pool cleaner", but his real job is hunting vampires.

As far as pure entertainment value goes, Day Shift is one of the best films in a long time. The stunt work, the performances, the comedic chemistry between Foxx and Franco is a force of nature. It's a perfect balance of action, comedy, gore and Snoop Dogg smoking weed. Yeah.

Snoop Dogg doesn't show up much, but when he does, he's a presence.

The comedic dialogue and scenes between Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco are some of the juiciest around. Particular praise goes towards Franco.

The stunt work and action scenes are another particular praise. I really hope the stunt team got their paychecks MAXED OUT - because that was some of the best stunt work I've seen in some time. Very VERY well done.

Yes, you do get some genre tropes and a cliche here and there, but... whatever. It's entertaining as hell.
It's a blockbuster B+ action comedy that hits all the right notes for a fun night with some friends and/or your significant other. Grab the popcorn... you're really in for a nice treat.

Come for the vampires, stay for Dave Franco pissing himself hilariously.

3.5/5
