Nosferatu (2024)

About: A gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.

Robert Eggers' NOSFERATU is one of, if not, the most visceral and surreal experience I've had at the movie theater. Not only this year, but ever.

In typical Eggers mature form, Nosferatu puts focus on the artistry rather than the gore. Although, funny as it is, there is enough gore to satisfy THOSE fans of horror. But, the emphasis is by far more on the artistry of the characters, tone and writing.

Lily Rose Depp and Bill Skarsgard put on two of the absolute BEST performances of the year. Skarsgard is in top form as Count Orlak. Skarsgard is hardly recognizable as the title character. From the movements, look, feel, tone, grit and voice, Skarsgard blends so well into Orlak and gives us one of the most downright terrifying horror performances of all time.

Depp is the heart and soul of the film, putting every ounce and fiber into Ellen Hutter, the wife of Thomas Hutter. It's one of the most beautiful and soulful performances in quite some time. I honestly believe she could be a sleeper pick for the Oscars race.

Other than the performances all around, Nosferatu is a beautiful film to look at. The cinematography and atmosphere is very Robert Eggers and it wont disappoint your eyes. The look and feel of the film compliments the performances and tone by all measures.

Nosferatu is a poignant masterpiece of horror and will become a timeless classic in no time. It's an important film for the genre and I'm glad we got to top off this year with this one, in a year chock-full of horror gems. We were truly blessed this year. What a way to cap it off.
