Scream V | Review & Score

About: 25 years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quite town of Woodsboro, California, a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town's deadly past.

He (or she) is back!

Ghostface has arrived once again to Woodsboro and it's time for some clever thrills and chills. Everyone is back and game for a new chapter (and generation) of the infamous Ghostface terror. SCREAM is a clever and well acted chiller that brings back some familiar faces to mingle with some new faces.

It's nothing comparable to the original Scream film, but 2022's version is just as clever and witty as one would come to expect from a Scream film. The new character additions are decent enough, with particular praise going to Jenna Ortega's Tara Carpenter. Ortega adds some a fresh perspective and attitude to a new generation of Scream fans. It's really refreshing to see her in her element.

We have a new lead in Melissa Barrera's Sam Carpenter, the sister of Tara. She's another breath of fresh air for the franchise moving forward. Barrera starts off a bit on the shy side with her character, but grows into something we won't mind having around for the next few films (if we get more). She's a terrific successor to Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott.

The other supporting cast are all terrific in their roles and we will definitely see a few of them in more films to come, if we're lucky to have more Scream films.

Really solid entry in the franchise and things are definitely moving forward for the good and promising.

3.5/5
