The Purge | Ranked

Let's rank The Purge franchise...

Hits, misses and in betweens, THE PURGE is one of the more unique concepts of horror to come along in some time. It's heavily meta, with a touch of menace and subtleness. All in all, I have highly enjoyed the mess of it all. It's a fun franchise with a few real bad apples, but still manages to find me entertained one way or another.

With that, I will rank what I believe are the BEST in the PURGEness.

Enjoy! (insert clever comment here)

5. The First Purge (2018)
About: America's third political party, the New Founding Fathers of America, comes to power and conducts an experiment: no laws for 12 hours on Staten Island. No one has to stay on the island, but $5,000 is given to anyone who does.

Analysis: Definitely the weakest entry of the franchise. It's not very fun and enjoyable to me. They tried to make it more social politics driven and I don't think this franchise needed that ideaology. The masks and cast are fairly decent, but the story is very melodramatic in some aspects. It's pretty predictable as well. I basically knew the scenes before they even aired. Yeah, definitely the weakest. I wish they went a different story route with it. It's a shame.

SCORE: 2/5

4. The Forever Purge (2021)
About: All the rules are broken as a sect of lawless marauders decides that the annual Purge does not stop at daybreak and instead should never end.

Analysis: Not one of the more fun entries, but it has some decent action scenes, with a decent enough cast overall. I just didn't like the idea of the PURGE concept becoming without its parameters being intact. I love more the idea it being only a 12 hour period. Makes it far more interesting. Noy my jam.

SCORE: 2.5/5

3. THE PURGE: ANARCHY (2014)
About: Three groups of people intertwine and are left stranded in the streets on Purge Night, trying to survive the chaos and violence that occurs.

Analysis: With ANARCHY, they bring THE PURGE to the streets and give it more grit and a sense for action. It's a fun movie, with a great cast led by Frank Grillo.

SCORE: 3/5

2. THE PURGE (2013)
About: A wealthy family is held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legal.

Analysis: THE PURGE is a fun, clever, interesting and creative concept that doesn't always take itself too seriously, but thats the most fun thing about it. It has a great cast and standout performance from Rhys Wakefield as the villianous 'Polite Leader'.

SCORE: 3.5/5

1. THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR (2016)
About: Former Police Sergeant Barnes becomes head of security for Senator Charlie Roan, a Presidential candidate targeted for death on Purge night due to her vow to eliminate the Purge.

Analysis: By far the best in THE PURGE franchise. Election Year has great action sequences, characters and a very appealing cast, with some return players. I love the 'election' idea for the story, showing corrupt cops, politicians and such. It's a fun movie that should please Purge fans worldwide.

SCORE: 4/5

OVERALL ANALYSIS
THE PURGE has some clever moments, action sequences, solid casts and some solid entertainment value overall. The concept is what intrigues me the most, because I feel it could turn out to be a real thing at some point and that scares the piss outta me. But, other than all of that, you should definitely check out this franchise. It's fun, clever and most are hits than misses.
