Nightmare Alley | Review & Score

About: A grifter working his way up from low-ranking carnival worker to lauded psychic medium matches wits with a psychologist bent on exposing him.

NIGHTMARE ALLEY is not one of Guillermo del Toro's best, but it's a wild, unique but often muddled mess of a movie that will fill the nice weird voids in your lives. The cast is great, but their characters are very hit and miss for me. Some of the production felt undermined quite a bit, but the set pieces are to die for.

It has great visuals, mucky tone and del Toro's signature flair to it. I'm not surprised it was nominated for all the awards, but its just not quite to that level for me. I'm pretty sure del Toro phoned most of this movie in, maybe even go as far as to say he wasn't even there physically to direct it all. Sometimes that's not a bad way to feel overall, but Nightmare Alley just doesn't hit the nail for me in many aspects.

If you love and have been a fan of del Toro, you wont want to miss it.
