The Killer | Review & Score

About: After a fateful near-miss, an assassin battles his employers and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn't personal.

"Looks like Fincher, but it doesn't feel like Fincher."

David Fincher's latest film takes an intriguing step, but it doesn't quite get its grip.

David Fincher, known for 'Se7en' and 'Fight Club', among others, takes over the film version of a novel of the same name, THE KILLER. The movie looks very Fincher-like, but for me, it didn't feel very Fincher-like.

Michael Fassbender plays the lead and he's fantastic in the role. He has a certain flourish about him. He plays the quiet, well spoken, thought out type of characters. So, this wasn't a big step for him. But he definitely turned in his best performance to date.

The other characters, with their short appearances, didn't make the most of it. Even the talented Tilda Swinton didn't muster up anything of true importance. Fassbender and David Fincher are the reasons you'll arrive and stick around for a bit.

The overall tone and look of the movie is terrific. It has that dark, dready tone Fincher is known for. Andrew Kevin Walker wrote the movie, known for writing 'Se7en' and boy it didn't feel anything like what Se7en brought to the table. I get it though, you gotta feel for something not so similar. But it wouldn't have hurt to throw in some more aspects of that classic. If that makes sense.

It's a fine enough experience if you're a long time Fincher fan. Other than that, it's only good for a one time watch.

It looks like Fincher, but it doesn't feel like Fincher.
