The Pope's Exorcist | Review & Score

About: Follow Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican's leading exorcist, as he investigates the possession of a child and uncovers a conspiracy the Vatican has tried to keep secret.

It's got Russell Crowe fighting demons, splashed with some gore. Is that a good selling point?

Russell Crowe was clearly game for this role, and he nailed it. He's the saving grace for this basic possession storyline. It's neither bad nor good, it's just a simplistic designed plot based on a real life person, portrayed by Crowe. It has a few moments of entertainment, but overall it's too formulaic for me.

Possession stories have been told far too many times, and told a whole lot better than THE POPE'S EXORCIST. But, it's Russell Crowe beating up demons for about an hour and thirty minutes, go with it as you will. I will say, however, it has some solid camera work and direction, just too formulaic of a story that's been done so many times with far more class and value.
